The new rom-com you can’t miss

Hello my little bookworms! How’s your day going? Can you believe tomorrow is June? JUNE?! how on Earth?! In my mind, I’m still in February

The Meeting Point by Olivia Lara

Publication day: September 2nd 2021

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Thanks to Aria & Aries and NetGalley for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If I had just one word to describe this book it’d be buoyant. And if you like happy endings you MUST read this book.

I know not many of you like the instant-love trope. I mean, I don’t like it. I try to avoid it as much as possible. So when I realized that this book had this trope I freaked out a little.

HOWEVER, it surprised me in the best way possible. I ended up loving it! Olivia wrote it in such a smart and beautiful way that is inevitable to love it. And not only that, you end up loving the story, the characters, the places, everything.

So, what is it about?

What if the Lift driver who finds your cheating boyfriend’s phone holds the directions to true love?

‘Who are you and why do you have my boyfriend’s phone?’
‘He left it in my car. You must be the blonde in the red dress? I’m the Lift driver who dropped you two off earlier.’

And with these words, the life of the brunette and t-shirt wearing Maya Maas is turned upside down. Having planned to surprise her boyfriend, she finds herself single and stranded in an unknown city on her birthday.

So when the mystery driver rescues Maya with the suggestion that she cheers herself up at a nearby beach town, she jumps at the chance to get things back on track. She wasn’t expecting a personalised itinerary or the easy companionship that comes from opening up to a stranger via text, let alone the possibility it might grow into something more… (via Goodreads)

I really liked Maya. I loved how she decided to go out of her comfort zone and venture into something new. Although at times I was a tad infuriated with her. As for the male MC (I won’t say his name otherwise I’d give a major spoiler) I loved him too.

I enjoyed the writing so much! I think it was what made me love this book. By Olivia’s words, you get to feel what the Maya feels. And I absolutely loved how Olivia wrote Maya’s adventure, you get to fall in love with Carmel-by-the-Sea just like her. I’ve never been drawn to go to California. But after this book, I can’t wait to visit this enchanting town. I’m already half in love with it! Can some take me, please?

The only thing I didn’t like much, was the ending. I’d have loved it if it’d have been a tad longer, to see more of them together, an epilogue would have phenomenal. But I think it deserves 5 stars nonetheless.

It’s safe to say that I’ll be waiting for Olivia’s upcoming releases. Can’t wait to meet all the wonderful characters and stories she’ll bring to life.

If you like the instant-love trope, enjoy rom-com, and are a sucker for happy endings (like me), seriously you CAN’T MISS this book!! Now, if you don’t love this trope so much, I’d say give it a shot, it might surprise you.

Tell me, would you read this book? What’s your favourite rom-com?

love, Lin
