Let’s make it clear. We all love physical books. I don’t know about you, but I’ve NEVER met someone that says: I love digital copies by far! No, we all love printed books. But is it really worth it to buy a Kindle?
Like you, I love to hold the books in my hands. To feel the texture of the paper. To smell that unique smell, and to have it among my other babies. So, for many, many years I resisted and didn’t buy any e-reader. But one day, I found a very cheap Kindle on Amazon, and I said: well, why not? And my life changed.
So here I’m going to give you 10 specific reasons why I love my Kindle and why I think is worth it. For the record, I own a Kindle paperwhite and all references here are according to this device. Sooo let’s go…
It’s super super super light-weight
Seriously, it’s so light you can take it anywhere! and it’s perfect for travelling. I love to travel, and of course, I must take my books. But you know when you travel you’re allowed to take a certain weight. BUT, with a kindle, you can take so many books and the weight is the same.
The kindle files are quite light as well
Kindle books are very light, so you can have thousands of books in that tiny gadget. The sky is the limit!
Kindle books are cheaper
Usually, I must say. Most of the times, Kindle books or e-books are waaaaay cheaper than physical copies.
Free Kindle books.
Every day there’re free Kindle books on Amazon, and there’re many websites that let you know which ones are free. Such as Bookbub that sends you daily bargains (discounts and free). And, of course, there’s also Kindle Unlimited. A subscription that gives you access to thousands of free books.
No backlight
One of the things that held me back on buying a Kindle was the damage a digital screen does to my eyes. I had enough with my laptop, phone and TV. BUT the good thing is that Kindle doesn’t have this backlight that damages your eyesight. In fact, it is designed to not damage it, that’s why it looks so much like real paper. And it has a wide range of light intensity, so even if you’re in direct sunlight or in complete darkness, you can read without a problem.
Excellent battery life
Kindle charges quite fast. OK is not a smartphone so it takes some time. But my Kindle usually full charges in about 2-3 hours. I leave it charging overnight and works perfectly. And the battery lasts for at least a week! When I read the whole day, let’s say 5-7 hours a day, the battery lasts about 3-4 days (it depends how intense the light is) And when I read less, about 1 hour each day, it can last a whole week and even more. For the record, I’ve owned this Kindle for about 4 years now and it works as perfectly as the first day.
Customize fonts
Sometimes books have such a small font and it’s a little tiring for your eyesight. Kindle has a great tool where you can enlarge any font! so you can read without a problem.
Translator and Offline Dictionary
If you’re like me and you like to read in other languages or even in you’re own mother tongue, you can find some pretty weird words. And Kindle has a translator and a dictionary offline included! You only have to tap the word and a small window opens with 3 little windows: a dictionary, Wikipedia and Translator. So, you can know the meaning of a word right away! I find this absolutely magnificent and soooo handy!
Notes & highlights
I looooove to take notes while reading. It’s just that sometimes there are such beautiful things! And for me highlight a paperback is a sacrilege! hahaha no pressures if you like to do it. But I just can’t do it on my books. BUT on Kindle you can just highlight your favourite sentences by just tapping it and it saves forever! You can even link it to your Goodreads profile and save your favourite notes and highlights directly in your profile!
Link it to Goodreads
Kindle allows you to link your Goodreads profile and it’s so amazing! You can rate and review a book as soon as you finish it. And it automatically updates your profile. And as I said before, save your favourite notes and highlights.
So there you have it. 10 beautiful reasons why it is worth it to buy a Kindle. Of course, a Kindle could NEVER replace physical books, but it’s quite handy.

Kindle, ¿vale la pena?

Dejémoslo en claro, todos amamos los libros físico. No sé tú pero yo NUNCA he conocido a alguien que diga: ¡amo las copias digitales mucho más! Nop, todos amamos libros impresos. Entonces, ¿realmente vale la pena comprar un Kindle?
Al igual que tú, amo tomar el libro en mis manos, sentir la textura de las hojas, oler ese característico olor de los libros, y tenerlo junto a mis otros bebés. Por eso, por muchos, muchos años me resistí en comparar un Kindle. Pero un día, encontré una oferta muy buena en Amazon y dije: bueeeno, ¿por qué no? Y mi vida cambió.
Por eso, aquí te daré 10 razones específicas porque yo amo mi Kindle y porqué yo creo que vale la pena. Por si acaso, yo tengo un Kindle paperwhite y todas las referencias que se hacen son de acuerdo a este dispositivo. Bueno, vaaamos!
Es súper súper súper liviano
En serio, es tan liviano que lo puedes llevar a cualquier lugar! y es perfecto para viajar. Yo amo viajar y, por supuesto, tengo que llevar mis libros. Pero bueno, sabes que al viajar solo te permiten una cantidad de Kg. específicos. PERO, puedes llevar tu Kindle con miles de libros y el peso no cambiará.
Los archivos de Kindle son livianos
Los libros en formato Kindle son muy livianos también, así que puedes tener literalmente miles de libros en ese pequeño dispositivo. ¡Maravilloso!
Los libros Kindle son más baratos
Obviamente siempre hay excepciones y es hermoso encontrar un libro impreso a 2 o 3 dólares. Pero la mayoría de las veces son muuuuucho más baratos, los libros Kindle usualmente están entre los 90 centavos a los 3-4 dólares, claramente hay algunos mucho más caros como 10 -14 dólares. Pero aún así siguen siendo más baratos que los libros impresos.
Libros gratis
Todos los días hay libros Kindle GRATIS en Amazon, y hay muchos sitios que te dicen cuáles como, por ejemplo, Bookbub, que te manda ofertas y avisos de libro gratis todos los días. También existe Kindle Ilimitado (Kindle Unlimited) que es una suscripción que te da acceso a miles de libros gratis.
No tiene luz de fondo
La luz de fondo o backlight, es esa luz artificial que te daña la vista que está presente en los celulares, computadores y prácticamente todas las pantallas. De hecho, uno de los porqué no compraba un Kindle es por esta luz, no quería arruinar mi vista más todavía. PERO Kindle no tiene esta luz de fondo por lo que no daña tus ojos. De hecho, está diseñado para parecer un papel de verdad, además, puedes aumentar o disminuir la intensidad de la luz que tiene, asique ya sea que estés leyendo directamente en el sol o en completa oscuridad, podrás leer sin problemas.
Excelente batería
El Kindle se carga bastante rápido, claro no es un smartphone que se carga en minutos, pero mi Kindle usualmente se carga completamente en 2 a 3 horas, yo lo dejo cargando en la noche y es perfecto, y la batería puede durar hasta una semana completa! Cuando leo todo el día, digamos unas 5 a 7 horas, la batería dura unos 3 a 4 días (depende que tan intensa tengas la luz) y cuando leo como gente normal, es decir, una hora diaria, la batería dura toda la semana y más. Tengo que decir que he tenido este Kindle por más de 4 años ya y aún sigue funcionando como el primer día.
Fuente personalizada
Muchas veces los libros tienen una letra demasiado pequeña y es muy cansador para la vista. Kindle tiene una herramienta genial la cual te permite agrandar o achicar cualquier tipo de fuente de cualquier libro! y puedes leer sin ningún problema.
Traductor y diccionario offline
Si eres como yo y te gusta leer en otros idiomas, o simplemente en tu idioma, nos podemos encontrar con palabras bastante raras y desconocidas, y para esto Kindle tiene un traductor y un diccionario incluido! Solo tienes que tocar la palabra y se abren tres ventanitas que son diccionario, Wikipedia y traductor. Así, puedes saber el significado de una palabra en el mismo momento! Encuentro esto maravilloso y muuuuy útil. Ojo, solo el diccionario es offline, para usar el traductor necesitas internet.
Notas y destacados
A mí me encaaaanta tomar notas y destacar cosas mientras leo. Es que hay veces que hay oraciones tan hermosas! y para mi marcar con destacadar mis libros es un sacrilegio! jajajaja sin presiones si te gusta hacer, pero yo no puedo hacerlo en mis libros. PERO en Kindle tu puedes destacar tus frases favoritas con solo tocar las palabra y se guarda para siempre! Incluso puedes vincularlo con tu perfil de Goodreads y esas notas y destacados se guradaran allí sin mayor esfuerzo de tu parte.
Únelo a Goodreads
Kindle te permite vincular el dispositivo con tu cuenta de Goodreads y es genial! Puedes escribir una reseña y evaluar un libro apenas lo terminas y se actualiza automáticamente en tu perfil, y como dije antes, puedes guardar tus notas y destacados favoritos.
Bueno, ahí lo tienes, 10 hermosas razones de porqué sí vale la pena comparar un Kindle. Por supuesto, un Kindle JAMÁS reemplazará un libro impreso, pero es bastante útil.
