I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book and absolutely devoured it. I just wanted to keep reading and for the book to never end.
What is it about?
In a city that never sleeps, Flora is desperate to wake up and finally land her first big break. But if your twenties are supposed to be the best years of your life, Floraâs off to a terrible start. Five months into her move, she’s barely scraping byâher closest companion a silent roommate, and her first major freelance job slipping through her fingers. Her best chance at making it is surviving the one commission no illustrator before her could: a notoriously impossible-to-please author who (quite rudely) rejects every single draft she submits. Floraâs timeline is shortâand she’s running out of chances.
To nail this project, sheâll have to lean into the dark, moody themes of his writingâno small task for someone known for illustrating woodland creatures in top hats. When sheâs on the brink of giving up, a chance encounter with a surly stranger changes everything. Fletcher Harding, neighbor, a friend of her roommate, and a dark literature connoisseur, needs help writing a column on romance novels to achieve an advance in his career. Flora, a firm believer in happily-ever-after’s, he decides is the perfect tutor.
On a hazy walk home, the two strike a deal: sheâll teach him about love stories, and heâll teach her how to embrace the shadows in her work. As their creative boundaries blur, so do the ones between their growing friendship and something far more. But with both of them carrying the weight of their pastsâand the futures of their careers hanging in the balanceâcan they really trust a story where love is the final chapter? (Goodreads)
Flora & Fletcher completely stole my heart (especially Fletcher, because duh, heâs perfect). Their friendship was the sweetest thing! I adored every moment of how they opened up to each other, supported one another, and slowly fell in love. And even though we only have Floraâs POV, we do get some little snippets of Fletcherâs, and I loved every second of them!
The friend group was also such a delight! I wouldâve loved a few more group moments, but I really enjoyed the friendship between Flora and Lenny.
And oh, the autumn vibes! đ This book was the definition of cosy â reading it made me feel like I was cosied up in a warm, fuzzy blanket with the crisp autumn breeze drifting through my window â chef’s kiss â
If you loved Promise Me Sunshine or Ready or Not by Cara Bastone, this one will be right up your alley. All the feels, all the cosiness.
This was my first book by Juliana Smith, but definitely not my last â I canât wait to dive into her backlist and future releases!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC. All opinions are my own
